Chateau de Monte-Cristo

Marly-le-Roi is a small, charming town a quick train ride from Saint Lazare.  It was formerly the location of the hunting lodge of Louis XIV.  Ever been in the Louvre and visited the “Cour Marly“?  The statuary in this courtyard came from the chateau.  The parc is virtually empty now but the footprint of the chateau remains.  And there is a small museum dedicated to it where you can see mock ups and a film of what the chateau had been.

The best part of visiting Marly-le-Roi is a walk and lunch in the town and then a visit to the former home of Alexandre Dumas.  There’s a lot of walking in this itinerary and a bus ride involved but it is doable.  It would be easier with a car if you have one but I did it by train, foot and bus!
